About the role

Maryland Environmental Service has an opening for an Occupational Safety & Health Compliance Officer at the Dundalk Marine Terminal facility in Baltimore, Maryland. This position will assist the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Port Administration with inspection of workplaces to ensure compliance and to enforce state and federal occupational safety and health laws, regulations and standards. The candidate will also assist with preparing employee safety training as well as accident and incident investigations to identify root causes. Must be able to pass a background check in order to obtain a TWIC badge and be able to pass a HAZMAT physical exam.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect workplaces to ensure compliance with state and federal occupational safety and health laws, regulations, and standards
  • Enforce safety and health regulations
  • Prepare employee safety training
  • Conduct accident and incident investigations to identify root causes

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate
  • One year of experience in the inspection of workplaces to ensure compliance and initiate enforcement of state and federal occupational safety and health laws, regulations, and standards
  • Valid driver’s license with less than 5 points
  • Must pass a background check to obtain a TWIC badge
  • Must pass a HAZMAT physical exam
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis

Notes: Additional experience in the interpretation and application of fire, health, or safety regulations, and the preparation of narrative reports documenting factual findings of inspections or investigations may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. Thirty semester credit hours to include twelve credit hours in construction, engineering, fire, manufacturing, or occupational safety and health technologies may be substituted for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three or more years in a safety-related role
  • Additional safety-related certifications such as Graduate Safety Professional (GSP)/Associate Safety Professional (ASP), OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER, and OSHA 30 for General Industry and/or Construction

Pay

Estimated pay range: $58,028.88 - $79,781.52 USD yearly
