Safety Compliance Officer (Occupational Safety Specialist 2)

The Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS) is a progressive business regulatory state agency dedicated to this mission. The department administers state laws and rules governing workers' compensation, occupational safety and health, financial institutions, insurance companies, and building codes. It also offers consumer protection and education programs, offices, and ombuds to assist consumers, injured workers, and businesses.
This position is with the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA), which assures safe and healthful working conditions for Oregon workers through enforcement of Occupational Safety and Health Regulations and by providing education and consultation to employees and employers.
About the role
As a Safety Compliance Officer, you will conduct safety evaluations and investigations, take enforcement action in a broad range of workplaces to ensure employer compliance with the Oregon Safe Employment Act, conduct technical training, and provide abatement assistance for employers and employees.

Requirements
Here’s what you need to qualify:
- One year of experience performing duties of an industrial safety representative or safety officer, or
- A bachelor's degree in industrial safety or occupational safety and health, or
- An associate degree in industrial safety or occupational safety and health and two years of industrial safety or regulatory enforcement program experience, or
- Four years of industrial safety or regulatory enforcement program experience.

- Experience in the cable yarding timber harvesting (logging) industry such as feller, choker setter, rigging slinger, chaser, hook tender, yarder engineer/operator, processor/loader operator, and/or side rod.
- Experience in the mechanical timber harvesting (logging) industry such as feller buncher operator, skidder operator, forwarder operator, processor/loader operator, and/or tethered logging equipment operator.
Preference may be given to candidates who are able to speak, read, and write Spanish fluently.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $5,458 - $8,352 per month. Per the Pay Equity Law passed in 2017, a pay equity analysis will determine the specific pay step offered based on relevant experience, education, training, and certifications documented in the application materials. On average, candidates new to state service will most likely be offered compensation in the lower to mid-level of the salary range.
The salary range listed is the non-PERS eligible rate. If you are already a participating PERS member or become PERS eligible after 6 months of employment, the salary range will increase by 6.95%, and the required 6% employee retirement contribution will be deducted from your pay.
Schedule
This position is eligible to telework on a part-time basis once the incumbent has gained the proficiency to perform work independently. However, regular, scheduled office hours are also required.
The successful candidate must have a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
