OBGYN Hospitalist
About the role
The OB/GYN Hospitalists provide in-house obstetrical coverage of the labor and delivery unit, antepartum and postpartum units, and triage areas. They also provide services including but not limited to emergency cesarean sections, spontaneous vaginal or operative vaginal births, postpartum tubal ligations, and rounding on antepartum, laboring and postpartum patients. They manage patients without assigned physicians and those requiring emergency obstetric care, provide backup support and surgical assistance to staff Obstetricians, and participate in a multidisciplinary team approach to case management.
Requirements
- Doctoral/Ph.D. level advanced degree in Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or foreign equivalent from an approved medical program
- Completion of an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) accredited Residency training program in OB/GYN
- Licensed Physician - MN Board of Medical Practice required upon hire
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire)
- PALS - Pediatric Advance Life Support - Multisource required depending on business unit upon hire
- NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation - Multisource required depending on business unit upon hire
- Licensed Physician - WI upon hire required
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in OB/GYN upon hire required
- Drug Enforcement Agency Certificate upon hire required
- Prescription Monitoring Program upon hire required
- National Provider Identifier upon hire required
Qualifications
Practices in a thoughtful manner including consideration for cultural diversity, individual autonomy and legal responsibilities. Full-time status at United Hospital and opportunity to pick up at other locations.

Practice Details: Seven labor and delivery locations; 12,300 deliveries/year; 30 clinics; 50+ OBGYNs; 21+ OB hospitalists; 18+ Clinical Nurse Midwives, 15 Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists. Quaternary hospital: Abbott Northwestern, Lv IV NICU; Tertiary hospitals - Mercy and United with level III NICUs, and 6 regional hospitals. Excellian, our EMR, is a software product from Epic and is considered one of the most comprehensive systems in the nation.
