OB Technician - PRN - Mercy Jefferson

About the Role

This position maintains professional accountability and technical support for the provision of patient care for OB patients. Under the direction of Nursing and Medical Staff, you will perform a wide variety of duties related to patient care, clerical support, and surgical assistance while working cooperatively as part of a team.

Our unit consists of labor, delivery, postpartum, well newborns, and a level II special care nursery. In addition, we also care for GYN surgical patients. Nurses are expected to work fluidly with all patient populations.

Responsibilities

• Perform designated clinical procedures and non-clinical support tasks essential to patient care and unit success
• Assist in operational support tasks including maintenance of patient records, bed control and turnover, patient registration, charge capture, ensuring adequate supplies, phlebotomy, transport of specimens, patient transport, and obtaining blood glucose
• Enter Birth Certificate data
• Provide supportive care and assistance with ADLs to newborns, childbearing and postpartum patients, pediatric patients, and others as assigned
• Maintain calm and work efficiently through obstetrical emergencies as part of the team
• May be required to take call
• All duties performed in a manner consistent with Mercy’s mission, values, and service standards

Requirements

• High-School Diploma or GED required
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Surgical Technology experience required at hire or completion of a unit-based competency within 2 months of hire
• Must understand English both written and spoken
• Must be able to perform job-related functions safely and successfully, with or without reasonable accommodation

This is a non-certified technologist position. You may have attended and completed an accredited surgical tech program but do not need an active Surgical Technologist Certification (CST). Proof of education may be requested.
