Job Summary and Responsibilities
- Guides patients through the labor and childbirth process, focusing on the safety of the mother and baby, with kindness and compassion.
- Works in Obstetrics, triaging patients or performing screening exams on walk-ins, guiding patients through a routine induction and delivery, monitoring the mother’s dilation progress, and keeping close watch on the baby’s fetal heart rate.
- Coaches mom as the baby is delivered and provides updates and support to the patient’s partner and loved ones.
- Affirms that routine is never routine, appreciating the varied experiences in the department and being sensitive and understanding to different circumstances.
- Assesses antepartal, intrapartal, and postpartal patients for risk factors, normal progress, symptoms of problems, and continuously monitors; detects changes in symptoms, health, or pain, and takes action as necessary.
- Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
- Sets priorities in the plan of care based on assessed needs and anticipates personnel, supplies, and equipment required to care for patients based on assessed needs.
- Collaborates with providers to provide exceptional care.
- Administers medications, IV therapy, and treatments in compliance with policies and procedures.
- Provides patient and family education.
Job Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing
- Licensed by the State of North Dakota Board of Nursing (RN)
- Certification for Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Certification for Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - 6-month grace period
- Certification for Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - 12-month grace period
