Nutrition Services Associate Tech

About the Role

Responsible for all aspects of patient meal service, including answering phones in the call center, assembling patient trays, cleaning and sanitizing dishes, equipment, and work areas, delivering and picking up patient meal trays, and managing stock. Communicates effectively and provides excellent patient and family-centered care and services.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient meal service, including accurate portioning and presentation of menu items, setting up tray assembly stations, and assembling trays.
• Transport tray carts and deliver trays to patients.
• Collect soiled trays and return them to the kitchen.
• Stock, distribute, and collect patient menus.
• Perform call center duties, including answering multiple-line phones, inputting patient selections into the computer, and ensuring compliance with dietary restrictions and special needs.
• Obtain and document patient food and beverage selections, intake, and preferences as directed.
• Perform dish room duties, including breaking down soiled trays, washing and sanitizing pots and pans, operating the dish machine, and properly handling and stocking clean service ware and equipment.
• Collect and dispose of trash, sweep and mop floors, and clean and sanitize kitchen equipment.
• Maintain work areas, including requisitioning, receiving, rotating, and putting away stock while meeting safety and sanitation standards.
• Transport food carts within the department and to patient care areas or other assigned locations.
• Identify and communicate opportunities for waste reduction and service improvements to leadership.
• Meet productivity, regulatory compliance, and service standards for the assigned area.

Qualifications

Required

• Ability to read, write, speak, and communicate effectively in English.
• Hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
• Ability to distinguish food types for therapeutic diets.
• Ability to function in a crowded, physically demanding, fast-paced environment for extended periods.
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn proper lifting techniques and safety precautions when using equipment such as dish machines, extractors, garbage disposals, and hazardous cleaning products.
• Customer service focus.
• For call center roles: strong phone etiquette, service orientation, and computer skills.
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and remain focused in a busy, noisy environment.

Preferred

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Food service experience.

Certification, Licensure, Registration

• For Transporters Only: Driver’s License and Industrial truck permit required by the hospital.
