Nut Tapper Operator

About the Role

This machine operator position (Nut Tapper) requires the operation and/or set-up of manufacturing equipment with limited direction or supervision. The incumbent will possess and demonstrate the skills necessary to maintain production requirements and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment and perform minor to moderate machine set-ups as required.
  • Perform first piece inspection, monitor the quality of all parts, and make adjustments to maintain quality standards.
  • Record data for SPC, ISO/Quality System documentation.
  • Perform minor machine maintenance such as oil changes and tightening of bolts.
  • Use micrometers, calipers, gages, comparators, wrenches, and other general tools and equipment.
  • Assist other operators as needed.
  • Move material by operating forklift or using non-motorized devices.
  • Adhere to all safety rules and policies.
  • Practice good housekeeping and label portable containers.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to use all gages and gauging techniques.
  • Knowledge in ISO/Quality System requirements.
  • Ability to operate equipment and perform minor machine set-ups.
  • Ability to meet production and quality standards.
  • Understanding of all required operator documentation.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to identify and correct routine problems.
  • Math skills for blueprint reading, gauging, and SPC.
  • Understanding of the manufacturing process and machine requirements for basic and repetitive work assignments.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures, including safety guidelines and practices.
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills and experience.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED a plus, but not required.
  • Minimum one year of experience in a direct or related field, preferred but not required.
  • Experience operating manufacturing and forklift equipment preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Standing and walking required for machine setup, operation, material handling, and data recording.
  • Sitting may be required for some machine operation and data recording.
  • Gripping, handling, and fine finger movements required for machine setup, mechanical adjustments, gauging of parts, housekeeping, and control switch operation.
  • Reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching associated with setting up and operating equipment.
  • Talking and hearing necessary to communicate with co-workers and supervisors, as well as to hear alarms, pages, and machine noises.
