About the role
The Trauma Nurse Clinician Supervisor is a member of the healthcare team who assumes advocacy and accountability for self and others under his/her direct supervision, assumes leadership of the Trauma Nurse Clinician staff and assists the Director of Trauma in providing/assuring a single standard of care to all patients. The Trauma Nurse Clinician Supervisor will assist in guiding, teaching, counseling, evaluation of staff and orienting new members of the team. The Trauma Nurse Clinician Supervisor will also participate in and learn the PI process, Registry, DOH, ACS, and NTDB trauma standards. The trauma nurse clinician supervisor will work in coordination with ER, OR, and ICU leadership to facilitate care of our trauma patients. The Trauma Nurse Clinician Supervisor can also provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures of Kendall Regional Medical Center and Trauma Services. In collaboration with the patient, the patient's family and other members of the health care team, the trauma nurse clinician assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and coordinates treatment plans. Demonstrates strong trauma clinical assessment, nursing intervention, and strong communication/leadership skills. Follows any additional direction and responsibilities from the Trauma Program Director.
Responsibilities
- Promotes mission, vision, and values of the organization
- Oversee the daily workflow, staffing, orientation, training and developing of employees within the department
- Responsible for completing schedule and payroll for trauma nurses
- Facilitates Trauma Committee meetings and participation on other committees and task forces as assigned
- Facilitates Trauma Nurse Clinician staff meetings on a monthly basis
- Facilitates quarterly meetings with each Trauma Nurse Clinician
- Promotes and supports a collaborative team approach in providing care for all patients
- Supports, interprets, and may assist in the developing and writing of policies, procedures, philosophy and objectives of the hospital
- Assists in monitoring customer satisfaction and implements plans to improve them
- Assist in completing annual performance evaluation for self and employees and implement plans to improve them
- Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships
- Maintain required competencies for self and all employees within the department
- Pursue professional growth and participates in a professional organization
- Respond to trauma bays
- May assist in coordinating and triaging incoming trauma patients
- Will assist in reviewing and evaluating all activations for triage level appropriateness
- May assist with evaluating admission consultations
- May assist and facilitate and manage care with primary trauma surgeon
- Will oversee documentation compliance
- Will oversee and respond to in-house trauma patients critical needs
- Will facilitate and mentor trauma nurse clinicians
- Will facilitate and assist in training and in-servicing needs
- Will attend daily multi-disciplinary rounds, leadership huddles, ICU and floor rounding
- Will assist in identifying and reporting trauma audit filters
- Will develop, facilitate and participate in scholarly activities
- Will oversee and participate in the functions as clinical liaison for pre-hospital partners
- Will oversee and facilitate trauma bay time outs and debriefings in collaboration with TNC and primary surgeon
- Will assist Trauma Program Director in overseeing concurrent PI functions as directed by Trauma Program Director
- Participate in duties assigned by the director of trauma services (i.e. conferences, meetings, tasks, etc.)
Qualifications
- Current Florida license as Registered Nurse or Recognized Compact Licensure (subject to Florida State Licensing Requirements, including/not limited to ongoing eligibility and duration provisions)
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification or must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Current Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) certification or must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- (RN) Registered Nurse
- Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience in specialty in an acute care Hospital setting
