Responsibilities

• Supervise, assess, plan, coordinate, facilitate, and evaluate patient care and staff development using the nursing process and evidence-based information.
• Assume responsibility and accountability for incorporating the organization’s vision, values, mission, and critical goals into job performance.
• Assist the Clinical Director in managing unit staff and patient population; provide direct patient care as needed.
• Oversee staff to ensure adequate patient care, including hiring, onboarding, evaluating, managing performance, coaching, and developing employees.
• Establish or contribute to care plans, including administering medication, managing IV lines, administering therapies, observing patients, and consulting with physicians.
• Ensure compliance with policies and financial stewardship, including budget development and maintenance.
• Serve as a resource to staff, patients, families, caregivers, physicians, and visitors to improve patient experience and clinical outcomes.
• Teach patients and families about illness/injury management, post-treatment care, nutrition, exercise, and medication self-administration.
• Facilitate inter/intra-departmental collaboration, communications, and problem-solving.
• Participate in policy revisions, committees, and goal/action planning for the unit.
• Contribute to staff recruitment and retention through role-modeling, education, and mentorship.
• Coordinate educational and professional activities related to unit needs.
• Regularly round with physicians, patients, or families to improve quality practice and patient experience.
• Utilize the nursing process and evidence-based practice to provide and evaluate patient care.
• Initiate and support quality improvement initiatives and utilize resources effectively.
• Direct staff in applying the nursing process and coordinate patient care.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

All RN staff with direct responsibility for stroke patients must have knowledge of:

• Stroke symptoms and warning signs
• Protocols and pathways for stroke patient identification, evaluation, and management
• NIHSS Stroke Alert activation and protocol
• Stroke quality indicators
• Available stroke patient education materials and community resources
• Educational requirements and Stroke Center website resources

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited NLN/CCNE institution (required).
• Legally licensed to work as a Registered Nurse in the State of Arizona (required).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification (required).
• Registered Nurse (RN) state licensure (required).
• Must obtain certification in area of expertise within 1 year of hire or promotion for Magnet standards.

Qualifications

• 2 years of Registered Nurse (RN) experience (required).
• 3 years of Registered Nurse (RN) experience (preferred).
• 1+ years of experience (required for sign-on bonus eligibility).
