Nursing Station Technician (NST) - Med/Surg
About the role
The Nursing Station Technician (NST) is a hybrid position combining elements of a Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles. This role is based at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - West Bank Campus, where the unit specializes in med/surg care for patients with a variety of conditions.
Responsibilities
- Work under the direct supervision of a nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, collaboration, and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fast-paced unit.
- Assists the professional caregiver in the delivery of patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding.
- Transporting patient and/or equipment 1:1 sitting with patients.
- Setting up and maintaining patient rooms.
- Reordering and stocking supplies.
- Answering phones, processing admissions, discharges, and transfers, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts, and ordering tests.
Qualifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required.
- Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program.
- Six months of recent direct care experience in a long-term, home care, or acute care setting.
- Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.
- Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire.

Pay
The starting base rate of pay for the Nursing Station Technician is $23.40. Candidates with experience may be brought in at a higher rate of pay.
Schedule
This position works 40 hours per pay period on the Day Shift, with 8-hour variable shifts, and every other weekend.
