Fairview is seeking a Nursing Station Technician (NST) for the Intensive Care Unit at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, MN. This hybrid role combines Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator duties to support patient care and administrative functions under the direction of nursing personnel.

About the role

This is a 0.8 FTE position, working 64 hours per 2-week pay period on the night shift (11:00 PM – 7:30 AM), including every other weekend rotation (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). The NST assists professional caregivers in delivering patient care, transporting patients and equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and performing clerical and unit coordination tasks. The role operates under the direct supervision of a professional nurse and may include patient care assignments based on unit needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care, including personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding.
  • Maintain unit desk functions: answering phones, processing admissions, discharges, and transfers, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts, and ordering tests.
  • Set up and maintain patient rooms.
  • Order and stock supplies.
  • Perform other tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview-sponsored Nursing Assistant program, or
  • Six months of recent direct care experience in a long-term, home care, or acute care setting (e.g., Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant, or Emergency Room Technician), or
  • Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program with completion of one semester of clinical rotation, or
  • Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire (not required to maintain after hire or for transfers into similar roles).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. OnTrack participants must obtain BLS certification upon program completion.

Pay

Compensation is determined by factors such as skills, knowledge, education, experience, and market conditions. Fairview prioritizes pay equity and considers internal team equity when making offers. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical. Eligible roles may include a sign-on bonus based on the approved program at the time of offer.
