About the role

The 7M Medical Specialty Unit is a specialized 12-bed inpatient unit dedicated to providing comprehensive care for adult patients with complex medical conditions, co-occurring behavioral health needs, and substance use disorders. Our team delivers evidence-based, compassionate care focused on assessment, stabilization, treatment, and recovery while supporting patients through some of their most challenging healthcare journeys. Staff on 7M work closely with Physicians, Registered Nurses, Therapists, Case Managers, Addiction Specialists, and Behavioral Health Professionals. Together, we address acute medical needs while providing behavioral support, medication management, discharge planning, and recovery-oriented treatment.

The Nursing Operations Manager provides 24-hour operational leadership for nursing units, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, supporting staff engagement, and driving execution of departmental objectives. This role has rotating 24-hour accountability and responsibility for a direct care nursing unit, serving as a link between daily operations and achievement of organizational goals. The Operations Manager is responsible for creating safe, healthy environments that support the work of the healthcare team and contribute to patient and employee engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership for successful implementation and execution of goals, action plans, and objectives for the department, including daily throughput, patient experience rounding, employee engagement rounding, quality monitoring, budget planning, and expense management.
  • Communicate, organize, prioritize, lead, facilitate, coach, and problem-solve with reporting staff to ensure departmental goals and objectives are met (Quality, Patient Experience, Employee Engagement, Staff Retention, and Throughput).
  • Collaborate with other department leaders to carry out new healthcare services and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Represent the organization positively at public and professional meetings.
  • Provide direct patient care or assist employees in overall care of patients as needed.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the department, including throughput, quality, patient experience, and employee engagement.
  • Coordinate resources to provide adequate staffing; demonstrate effective team building and leadership skills.
  • Establish day-to-day priorities and direct staff task assignments; facilitate problem-solving processes.
  • Monitor department budget, expenses, and engage in cost containment initiatives.
  • Support facility and organizational mission, goals, values, and scorecard objectives.
  • Create a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with standards and respectful of patient rights.
  • Complete daily leadership rounding with a focus on quality and patient experience; provide real-time staff feedback and service recovery.
  • Participate in the hiring and onboarding of new staff; manage and maintain unit schedule with a focus on appropriate staffing mix.
  • Facilitate and coordinate daily Interdisciplinary Rounds to ensure efficient unit throughput.
  • Collaborate with medical staff to ensure effective and quality patient care; escalate concerns to Nursing Unit Director as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing; BSN required (for Non-Magnet Facilities, BSN is required within 18 months of hire/transfer).
  • At least 2 years of experience in a clinical nursing role.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • In Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, de-escalation training must be successfully completed within 4 months of hire and maintained thereafter.
  • AHA BLS-HCP certification required; may be required to obtain/maintain BLS, ACLS, PALS, or NRP based on specific work unit.

Pay

Compensation Range: $89,232.00 - $142,771.20. Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
