About the role
Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Sunnyvale is seeking an experienced Evening Emergency Department Nurse Manager to provide leadership, operational oversight, and ensure the delivery of optimal patient care through the coordination of clinical activities, staff supervision, personnel leadership, and department organization.
Responsibilities
- Prioritize work and duties well and work under stressful situations
- Demonstrate good communication and customer service skills with patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers
- Make accurate clinical decisions and judgments quickly
- Provide input for formulating policies and procedures for the Med/Surg unit
- Assume responsibility for personal continuing education and developmental needs
- Serve and attend hospital and/or committees as appointed
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the CNO
- Provide action-oriented feedback to others and confront situational problems directly
- Maintain a safe work environment for staff and patients
- Submit professional, well-prepared reports and assignments
- Hire the best available candidate and assemble a talented mix of skills and abilities
- Provide challenge and stretch in project and task assignments and maintain an awareness of employees' personal career goals
- Provide clear directions/delegation and distribute workload appropriately
- Maintain an on-going dialogue with employees to ensure continual progress
- Present new and original ideas and exercise good judgment regarding major changes
- Communicate the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital
- Collect sufficient information to make timely and effective decisions
- Relate well to diverse groups of people throughout the organization and build rapport and form constructive relationships
- Maintain cost-effective strategies to meet budgetary expectations and evaluate strategies to reduce labor and supply costs
- Ensure that the critical needs of patients are met by effectively managing human resources and optimizing the number and type of skilled, qualified workers available for scheduling and daily staffing
- Ensure safe, quality care by maintaining the appropriate number and skill mix of clinical staff
- Develop flexible schedules and cultivate open inter and intra-departmental communication
- Counsel employees and take appropriate disciplinary action for infractions of policy and Code of Conduct
- Determine qualifications and competence of staff and maintain written records for tracking time and attendance
- Investigate, evaluate, and respond to all complaints and take measures to correct problems through to resolution
- Provide consistent direction for enhanced patient flow and articulate factual data for problem-solving patient and/or staff-related conflicts
- Drive departmental processes and communication toward prioritizing quality outcomes, including aggressive core measure compliance
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing with the completion of a BSN required, MSN preferred
- ARDCS or CCI certification preferred
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive nursing leadership experience
- Minimum of 3-5 years of Emergency Department experience
- Demonstrated success managing teams, staffing, quality initiatives, and patient care operations
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas
- Current BLS Certification
- Current ACLS Certification
- Current PALS Certification
- Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, and Outlook
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills required
- Current regulatory knowledge (CMS and Joint Commission) and current evidence-based practice knowledge
