Nurse Surveyor – Nursing Evaluator

About the role

The Nursing Evaluator will provide regulatory surveillance to licensed assisted living and home care providers using nursing and health-related knowledge to assure quality care and services through compliance with State regulations, laws, and rules related to the provision of assisted living and home care services.

Responsibilities

• Conduct scheduled onsite surveys of state-licensed assisted living facilities and home-care providers.
• Make onsite observations, conduct interviews, and write licensing correction orders of survey findings.
• May be responsible for participating in administrative hearings and conducting follow-up visits to providers to ensure correction of licensing violations.

Requirements

• Currently licensed in Minnesota as a Registered Nurse, without restriction.
• Two (2) years of experience in a health care setting in positions that may include:
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Charge Nurse (must include at least two years as an RN charge nurse)
  • RN Supervisor
  • Director of Nursing
  • Health Care Administrator
• Substitute a master's degree in nursing, Public Health, Health Care Administration, Psychology, or closely related medical field for eighteen (18) months of experience; a bachelor's degree in one of the above areas may be substituted for twelve (12) months of experience; and an associate's degree in one of the above areas may be substituted for six (6) months of experience.
• This position requires successful completion of a background check and employment reference check.
• Travel is required (up to 75% of the time). Reimbursement for authorized business travel expenses is provided according to bargaining unit guidelines.

Qualifications

• Oral communications skills sufficient to interview staff, residents, clients, and patients.
• Critical thinking skills sufficient to collect and analyze information, identify areas of focus, and make decisions based on evidence gathered.
• Listening skills sufficient to ascertain level of compliance in meeting resident/client needs.
• Interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships, inform providers of deficiencies and other pertinent findings, and participate in legal proceedings.
• Written communication skills sufficient to document concise, accurate, and complete information and conclusions.
• Computer skills sufficient to document findings and conclusions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Clinical and/or management experience in assisted living facilities and/or home care.
• Experience conducting regulatory, licensing, and/or healthcare-related investigations.
• Experience working with diverse backgrounds, religions, or gender identities.
• Ability to speak multiple languages; bilingual.
• Ability to apply nursing and health knowledge and clinical expertise to the review of providers.

Schedule

• Majority of work hours are between 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday.
• Need for weekend or overnight travel is determined by survey workload.
• This position is hybrid, involving both on-site surveillance and teleworking from your home office.
• Eligible for up to 50% telework for applicants who live in Minnesota or in a bordering state within 50 miles of the assigned work location. Candidates residing outside of Minnesota or in a bordering state within 50 miles must relocate to Minnesota within 30 days of their start date.

Pay

$39.06 - $57.76 / hourly; $81,557 - $120,603 / annually

Location

Position will be filled for the following MDH district office location based on the top candidate: Rochester or Mankato.
