Long-Term Care Nurse Surveyor

About the role

This Registered Nurse position is responsible for the direct application of the Long Term Care survey process. This survey process includes conducting on-site surveys in nursing homes and licensed residential facilities to determine compliance with federal certification and state licensure requirements where applicable and reviewing/evaluating the quality of care, quality of life, environment and services provided to all residents in the facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site surveys using federal and state protocols and procedures to identify deficient practices and determine appropriate level of non-compliance in the provision of healthcare and related services.
  • Communicate observations and findings ensure adherence with survey protocols and maintain the integrity of the survey.
  • Conduct on-site investigations of complaints within the required timeframes using federal and state protocols and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of complainants, consumers who are the subject of the complaint, and the complaint survey schedules.
  • Complete a written summary of the investigation of each allegation in the complaint.
  • Organize and submit survey packets according to division policies.
  • Prepare for and testify in legal proceedings.
  • May assist in staff training.

  • Absolutely required: Knowledge of survey and investigative procedures and the ability to conduct surveys, inspections, interviews, observations, and investigations.
  • Absolutely required: Ability to identify potential adverse health and safety conditions.
  • Absolutely required: Ability to utilize computer equipment and software to enter, retrieve and manipulate data.
  • Absolutely required: Ability to work before and after normal work hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Absolutely required: Ability to be professional and maintain composure under stressful situations.
  • Absolutely required: Commitment to the public health mission of protecting the health, safety, rights, privacy, and well-being of residents in long term care facilities.
  • Preferred: Experience as a Registered Nurse in an Acute or Long-Term Care setting.
  • Required: An Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.

Pay

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $67,314.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience.

Schedule

A Day In The Life details the essential functions of this role, which include conducting on-site surveys, communicating observations and findings, conducting on-site investigations of complaints, maintaining confidentiality, completing summaries of investigations, organizing and submitting survey packets, preparing for and testifying in legal proceedings, and assisting in staff training. The role requires travel on most workdays to inspect, audit, examine, survey, or investigate clients, customers, or other regulated entities and write reports at those sites or employee’s home. Employee reports to the agency’s office for occasional meetings or events. Number and timing of work hours may vary daily or weekly to accommodate operational needs and staffing concerns at the client’s or customer’s worksite, minimize expenditures for repeated visits to complete the work, and allocate resources to complete assigned work effectively. This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work.
