About the role

New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is seeking a full-time 4 days/40 hours NP/PA for their Westbrook clinic. The successful candidate will have a strong oncology/hematology background and be comfortable seeing a broad spectrum of cancer patients.

Responsibilities

  • Elicit medical histories of patients, perform physical examinations, and develop a differential diagnosis/problem list.
  • Assess the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies.
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests and radiologic data.
  • Diagnose, and treat co-morbid illness within the scope of a patient's hematologic/oncologic diagnosis.
  • Perform procedures as delegated by the attending physician.
  • Prescribe medications in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Determine the eligibility of patients for entry into clinical trials based on findings.
  • Evaluate the quality of care provided and recommend changes for improvement.
  • Initiate appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of the patient.
  • Educate patients and families about the disease process and treatment.
  • Provide information to patients and families related to symptom management and psychosocial response to the diagnosis of cancer and related treatment.

Requirements

  • State of Maine Nurse Practitioner/Physician's Associate license required or the ability to obtain.
  • Three (3) years' experience in Oncology and Hematology.
  • Master's Degree Required.
  • Ability to collaborate with physicians, nurses, and support staff.
  • Ability to communicate with patients in a clear, concise, and compassionate manner.

Qualifications

  • Must be licensed in the state of Maine as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in oncology and hematology.
  • A Master's degree is required.
