About the role
New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is seeking a full-time 4 days/40 hours NP/PA for their Westbrook clinic. The successful candidate will have a strong oncology/hematology background and be comfortable seeing a broad spectrum of cancer patients.
Responsibilities
- Elicit medical histories of patients, perform physical examinations, and develop a differential diagnosis/problem list.
- Assess the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies.
- Order and interpret laboratory tests and radiologic data.
- Diagnose, and treat co-morbid illness within the scope of a patient's hematologic/oncologic diagnosis.
- Perform procedures as delegated by the attending physician.
- Prescribe medications in accordance with federal and state regulations.
- Determine the eligibility of patients for entry into clinical trials based on findings.
- Evaluate the quality of care provided and recommend changes for improvement.
- Initiate appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of the patient.
- Educate patients and families about the disease process and treatment.
- Provide information to patients and families related to symptom management and psychosocial response to the diagnosis of cancer and related treatment.
Requirements
- State of Maine Nurse Practitioner/Physician's Associate license required or the ability to obtain.
- Three (3) years' experience in Oncology and Hematology.
- Master's Degree Required.
- Ability to collaborate with physicians, nurses, and support staff.
- Ability to communicate with patients in a clear, concise, and compassionate manner.
Qualifications
- Must be licensed in the state of Maine as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant.
- At least three (3) years of experience in oncology and hematology.
- A Master's degree is required.
