About the Role

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) provides comprehensive healthcare for assigned patients and the community as determined by scope of practice guidelines and specialty. This includes completing health assessments, determining diagnoses, planning and prescribing treatment within the parameters of medical staff privileges at the University of Illinois and the APRN’s area of expertise. The APRN participates in the educational experiences of nursing students, medical students, residents, and other healthcare disciplines and is required to maintain a faculty appointment to receive clinical privileges.

Responsibilities

• Manage the care of patients within the Healthy Kids U program (a multiprofessional, multicomponent pediatric obesity care program) and within parameters of medical staff privileges.
• Obtain relevant patient health history and interpret patient tests and records.
• Perform physical exams and record findings.
• Perform diagnostic, preventive, and/or therapeutic procedures; order special screenings, developmental, or laboratory tests to diagnose conditions; and interpret results.
• Prescribe/order appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions and develop a treatment plan.
• Develop an educational plan for patient/family.
• Assist with scheduling patients for procedures, coordinating with other services, and completing necessary documentation.
• Order appropriate consultations/referrals.
• Determine effectiveness of treatment plan with documentation of treatment provided and patient outcomes; reassess and modify the plan as needed.
• Participate in the educational experiences of nursing students, medical students, residents, and other healthcare disciplines through case conferences, precepting, mentoring, and assisting with curriculum development and instruction.
• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required.
• Graduation from an accredited APRN program.
• Current license as a Professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.

Preferred Qualifications

• Staff nursing experience in Pediatrics.
• Pediatric clinical care experience.
• Obesity medicine experience.

Pay

$98,000 to $120,000 per year. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
