Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, Inpatient Oncology

Primary Location: Liberty, MO (Department: APP CBDI Inpt). Rotating shift within the Division of Oncology (Cancer and Blood Diseases Institute). Full-time position (40 hours/week, FTE 1.0).

About the Role

Inpatient oncology Advanced Practice Provider (APP) position responsible for the care of oncology patients admitted for routine chemotherapy as well as unexpected sick admissions. Oncology inpatient units are located at both the Base and Liberty locations. Both new graduates and experienced APPs will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Perform history and/or physical exams on patients presenting for care in area of expertise.
• Assess and diagnose illnesses, including chronic and acute conditions.
• Formulate, document, and monitor a treatment plan.
• Order and monitor therapeutic interventions including diets, laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic tests as deemed necessary.
• Provide clinical consultation and order interdisciplinary consults.
• Prescribe medications in accordance with federal and state laws, rules, and CCHMC policy.
• Maintain competency in subspecialty practice, skills, and procedures in accordance with Joint Commission standards (FPPE and OPPE).
• Develop measurable outcomes and individualized comprehensive plans of care, involving the patient/family/caregiver.
• Incorporate current scientific evidence, clinical guidelines, and clinical expertise to formulate interventions and outcomes.
• Maintain professional behaviors aligned with core values and care standards; participate in quality improvement activities or research.
• Engage in lifelong learning and professional development; serve as a preceptor, mentor, or leader in professional organizations.
• Integrate ethical considerations and research findings into practice; advocate for pediatric patients and families.
• Provide leadership in care management to achieve optimal quality, cost-effective care.
• Document and communicate with healthcare team members to ensure integrated delivery of pediatric care services.
• Delegate appropriate monitoring, assessment, and interventions according to scope of practice.
• Make appropriate referrals and discuss recommendations with patient/family/caregiver.
• Order and/or perform treatments, therapies, and procedures based on current knowledge and research.
• Provide diagnostic and laboratory results to patient/family/caregiver, including benefits, limitations, and adverse effects of proposed therapies.
• Use a systematic, ongoing evaluation process to revise diagnoses, outcomes, and plans of care as needed.
• Evaluate the accuracy of diagnoses, effectiveness of interventions, and attainment of expected outcomes.
• Utilize evaluation results to recommend process or structural changes, including policy or protocol updates.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in a related field or Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.
• Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (NP), or NCCPA certification for Physician Assistants.
• Licensure and certification in accordance with CCHMC Delineation of Privileges.
• Multi-state licensure in addition to Ohio licensure may be required based on subspecialty.

Qualifications

• Preferred: At least 2 years of experience in the Cancer and Blood Diseases Institute (CBDI), either as an RN or APP.
• Preferred: Experience as an APP in a subspecialty.

Schedule

• 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM or 11:00 AM – 11:30 PM.
• No overnight shifts currently required.
• Every third weekend worked.
• Holiday shifts required.
• Call duty required.

Pay

$95,000 – $115,000 per year.
