Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, Inpatient Oncology

About the role

Inpatient oncology APP position caring for oncology patients admitted for routine chemotherapy and unexpected sick admissions. Oncology inpatient units are located at both Base and Liberty locations.

Responsibilities

• Patient Care: Perform history and/or physical exams; assess and diagnose acute and chronic conditions; formulate, document, and monitor treatment plans; order and monitor therapeutic interventions including diets, laboratory, radiological and diagnostic tests; provide clinical consultation and order interdisciplinary consults; prescribe medications in accordance with Federal and State Law, Rules, and CCHMC policy.
• Outcomes Identification and Planning: Develop measurable goals for continuity of care; prioritize, evaluate, and modify individualized comprehensive plans of care; incorporate patient/family input; consider risks/benefits, costs, clinical effectiveness, and evidence-based guidelines; maintain and update documentation.
• Professional Practice: Maintain professional behaviors aligned with core values; participate in quality improvement, research, and lifelong learning; serve as preceptor, mentor, or role model; integrate ethical considerations and research findings; advocate for patients/families; lead committees or professional organizations.
• Care Management: Maintain competency in skills/procedures; promote self-management and family-centered care; employ diverse strategies to promote health and safety; provide leadership in care management; delegate appropriately; order/perform treatments and therapies; provide patient/family education on diagnostic results and therapies; make appropriate referrals.
• Evaluation: Use systematic evaluation of assessment data and outcomes to revise diagnoses, plans of care, and interventions; evaluate accuracy of diagnoses and effectiveness of interventions; include patient/family and healthcare providers; utilize evaluation results to recommend process or structural changes including policy or protocols.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in related field; may require clinical license, certification, or training; Doctor of Nursing Practice degree preferred.
• Certification: FNP or Acute Care NP; NCCPA.
• Licensure and certification in accordance with CCHMC Delineation of Privileges; multi-state licensure in addition to Ohio licensure may be required based on subspecialty.
• Experience: New graduate or experienced APP considered; preference for at least 2 years of CBDI experience as RN or APP.

Schedule

• Shift length: 12 hours (7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m. or 11:00 a.m.–11:30 p.m.).
• Straight shifts; no overnight shifts.
• Holidays: Yes.
• Weekends: Every third weekend.
• Call: Yes.
