Join a busy and thriving Hematology Oncology Division as an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) focused on the care of patients undergoing bone and marrow transplants in an inpatient setting.

About the Role

This full-time, salaried position involves 40 scheduled weekly hours, including 14 (13-hour) shifts per month with rotating night, weekend, and holiday coverage. The role primarily serves an inpatient patient population ranging from 13 years of age to end-of-life care.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care through comprehensive history-taking and physical examinations.
  • Evaluates and treats patients based on history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results under the practice agreement or scope of practice guidelines.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures such as bone marrow biopsies and lumbar punctures, as approved by the Clinical Division Chief.
  • Initiates referrals to other healthcare providers and consults with attending or collaborating physicians.
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided.
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice.
  • Participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
  • Supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
  • Engages in professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Precepts students enrolled in advanced practice provider programs at MUSC and facilitates the learning of new team members.
  • Maintains all required licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, and other credentials as mandated by applicable policies and state law.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program and current or eligible licensure as a PA, or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner (NP) program and current or eligible licensure as an APRN.
  • Required certifications (must be current and complete prior to start date):
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • DHEC and DEA license applications must be initiated prior to the first day of employment.
  • Preferred certifications: Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP (AGACNP) or Acute Care NP (ACNP) for managing acutely ill, unstable, or technologically dependent patients (e.g., vents, drips, monitors).
  • Preferred experience: Prior cellular therapy experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Continuous standing, walking, and sitting; frequent bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, and reaching in all directions.
  • Full use of both hands and legs, good finger dexterity, and ability to perform repetitive motions.
  • Qualified physically for respirator use, with 20/40 corrected vision.
  • Frequent lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, or carrying objects up to 50 lbs unassisted; exerting up to 50 lbs of force; lifting 25 lbs from 36" to overhead.
  • Infrequent work in dusty areas or confined/cramped spaces.
  • Work indoors in a latex-safe environment.

Schedule

14 (13-hour) shifts per month, including nights, weekends, and holiday coverage on a rotating schedule.
