Hematology Oncology Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

Principle Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical care for patients
  • Completes comprehensive patient assessments
  • Determines diagnosis and treatment of illness
  • Orders and interprets medical diagnostics in tandem with attending physician
  • Prescribes medications, treatments, therapy and medical equipment
  • Conducts patient education when working to manage chronic illness or wellness care
  • Refers for specialty care when determined
  • Consults with physician when patient needs outside of Nurse Practitioner scope of practice, diagnosis or treatment plan is unclear
  • Participates in health care team
  • Promotes communication within the team and other interdisciplinary health care staff
  • Acts as resource to members of the team
  • Works with primary care team for program development
  • Acts as liaison with outside agencies as needed
  • Collaborates with hospital staff by consulting and rounding on patients if designated by the specialty

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree - Completion of accredited Nurse Practitioner program or physician assist program required
  • Minimum of 1 year of NP or PA experience required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer a minimum of 2 years of experience in Oncology

Licenses/Certifications

  • Licensed Registered Nurse - MN Board of Nursing required upon hire (RN)
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner - MN Board of Nursing required upon hire or Certified Physician Assistant- MN Medical Board required upon hire.
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner - American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification within specialty or Certified Physician Assistant (NCCPA) - National Commission Certification of Physician Assistants within specialty required upon hire.
  • BLS required within 180 Days
  • Drug Enforcement Administration required upon hire
  • Physical Demands: Medium Work*: Lifting weight up to 32 lbs. occasionally (*Allina Safe Patient Moving Policy), up to 25 lbs. frequently

Practice Details

  • Full-time position, Monday – Friday business hours
  • No call or weekends
  • Outpatient-based role located at New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm, Minnesota
  • Provide care for patients with solid tumors and hematologic conditions
  • Care for patients across the treatment continuum, including active treatment visits, Infusion center support, survivorship and follow-up care
  • Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, including: Oncology providers, surgical and medical specialists and radiation oncology partners

Pay Range

$135,096 to $164,216 per year
