Nurse Practitioner OR Physician Assistant - General Neurology- Headache & Facial Pain Division

About the Role

Penn Medicine is dedicated to our tripartite mission of providing the highest level of care to patients, conducting innovative research, and educating future leaders in the field of medicine. This position offers an opportunity to join the outpatient headache program within the division of General Neurology, working closely with specialized physicians and nurse practitioners. The role involves diagnosing and providing comprehensive treatment for adults with various headache disorders, including migraines, tension-type headaches, cluster headaches, chronic daily headaches, and facial pain disorders.

The primary sites are the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine (PCAM) (~2-3 days/week) and Penn Neurology Cherry Hill (~1 day/week). This role includes a large procedural component such as administration of nerve blocks, trigger point injections, and botulinum toxin injections.

Schedule

• Monday to Friday, no nights or weekends
• Primary site: Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine (PCAM)
• Likely 1 full clinic day at Cherry Hill
• Telemedicine option available

Responsibilities

• Provides direct clinical care for patients according to established protocols and evidence-based practice standards in collaboration with the team.
• Maintains accurate and confidential medical records, documenting all evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Identifies self properly to patients and families, clarifying the nurse practitioner role when necessary.
• Functions within scope of practice and refers to the collaborating physician when outside of scope or as directed.
• Performs interventions specific to the assigned patient population and collaborative agreement.
• Participates in performance improvement processes to meet quality of care and service standards.
• Demonstrates professional responsibility as a role model to peers and members of the healthcare team.
• Performs approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based on the patient’s clinical status.
• Addresses patient and family concerns, creating a therapeutic relationship to provide support.
• Provides patient education, counseling, and instruction regarding diagnosis, treatments, medications, and preventative care.
• Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
• Precepts NP students and other healthcare learners.
• Identifies patient/family needs for community resources and refers appropriately.

Requirements

• BLS/CPR certification as a healthcare provider per the American Heart Association (required for providers in the ambulatory setting).
• CRNP licensure in PA and NJ (required).
• Prescriptive Authority in PA and NJ (required).
• Registered Nurse license in PA (required).

Qualifications

• Master of Arts or Science (required).
• Master's Degree or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Nursing (required).
• New to practice or less than 2.5 years of experience: The CRNP must be reviewed by the Credentials Committee and approved by the Medical Board.
