About the role

Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to provide direct clinical services in an Outpatient Clinic. Incumbent works within the Mental Health Service Line in the Outpatient Clinic setting.

Responsibilities

Provides psychiatric care to Veterans served within the Mental Health Service Line including obtaining health history, conducting interviews and assessments, formulating diagnoses, conducting mental status exams, substance abuse related assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests and completing inpatient and outpatient assessment. Conducts counseling and psychotherapy interventions through generally accepted methods of brief and long-term therapy, including individual therapy, group therapy, marital or couple therapy and family therapy. Provides psychopharmacological interventions including prescribing or recommending of pharmacologic agents and the ordering and interpretation of diagnostic and laboratory testing. Establishes and formulates the need for appropriate level of care to include voluntary and involuntary inpatient hospitalization.

Requirements

Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) - Post-master's certificate or master's or doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner. - Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by ACEN or CCNE. - Current, full, active, and unrestricted APN license to practice as an NP in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. - Basic board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) from ANCC, AANPCB, or another nationally recognized certifying body.

Qualifications

- Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) II: Meets basic education requirement for APN (NP). Nurse II is considered the entry grade level for APN (NPs); no experience is required. - Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) III: Meets basic education requirement for an APN (NP) AND one year of specialized APN (NP) experience equivalent to the Nurse II grade level.

Pay

Qualifications
