Duties
- Collaborates with the interprofessional team to manage the care of patients in the Cardiology Department.
- Utilizes specialized advanced knowledge and skills for initial and ongoing assessment, diagnosis, education, and disease management.
- Works collaboratively with attending Cardiologists, Fellows, Residents, and Nurses within and across service lines.
- May include inpatient, outpatient, and/or virtual care, and may involve travel to other ambulatory settings.
- Practices to the full extent of education, training, and certification, including prescribing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
- Initiates referrals and consults to specialty services and provides education to patients and their families.
- Affirms leadership and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team.
- Orders and interprets labs, tests, and diagnostic studies.
- Affirms assessments and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Requirements
- Must meet specific eligibility requirements for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP).
- Program approval - award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.
- Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
- Licensed independent practitioner with advanced education and national certification.
- Provides evidence-based care for a population of patients.
Skills
- Advanced knowledge and skills in cardiology.
