About the role

The Indian Health Service (IHS) seeks dedicated Registered Nurses to provide comprehensive, evidence-based, and patient-centered care in an ambulatory setting. Our mission is to improve the health of American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver compassionate care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Implement comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care within the Indian Health Service framework.
  • Select appropriate guidelines to match changing patient conditions and administer medications/treatments.
  • Communicate patient status and needs to providers and other staff, and counsel/teach patients.
  • Coordinate patient care activities with the care team and develop plans of care with the care team.
  • Monitor patients, communicate clinical changes, and ensure accurate, complete electronic health record documentation.
  • Administer medications/treatments, recognize adverse signs/symptoms, initiate appropriate interventions, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Provide guidance/training/mentoring to clinical and non-clinical staff and support orientation and clinical flow coordination.

Requirements

Conditions of employment include U.S. citizenship and selective service registration. This is a competitive vacancy announcement under Direct Hire Authority. The position is covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. The agency ensures that persons hired have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate relevant experience and education. The minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in Nursing or a diploma/associate degree in professional nursing, along with one year of professional nursing experience. Higher-level positions may require additional experience or education.
