About the role
The Indian Health Service (IHS) seeks dedicated Registered Nurses to provide comprehensive, evidence-based, and patient-centered care in an ambulatory setting. Our nurses play a vital role in improving the health of American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
Responsibilities
- Deliver compassionate care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Implement evidence-based care plans and monitor patient responses.
- Collaborate with the care team to coordinate patient care activities.
- Administer medications and treatments, and document patient responses accurately.
- Counsel and educate patients on preventive, curative, and rehabilitative measures.
- Provide oversight and direction to LVNs and nursing assistants, as necessary.
- Contribute to care coordination, health promotion, education, and quality improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Selectees may be subject to a probationary period.
- Must have passed the NCLEX-RN.
- Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse.
- Specialized experience in outpatient nursing duties, including triage, patient assessment, and implementing provider/clinic standing orders.
- Experience in developing and implementing disease management and prevention guidelines.
- Experience in coordinating patient care activities and communicating patient status/needs to providers and other staff.
- Experience in administering medications/treatments, recognizing adverse signs/symptoms, initiating appropriate interventions, and evaluating outcomes to modify the care plan.
- Experience in providing guidance/training/mentoring to clinical and non-clinical staff.
Qualifications
- A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required.
- Licensure: Must have passed the NCLEX-RN and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse.
