About the role
Nurses at the Indian Health Service (IHS) play a vital role in delivering compassionate care to American Indian and Alaska Native communities. Guided by the IHS mission to improve the health of these populations, nurses provide essential medical services where they are most needed.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive patient care, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of illnesses and injuries.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Conduct health assessments and screenings to identify potential health issues.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
- Document patient progress and communicate with family members and other healthcare providers as necessary.
Requirements
A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program is required. Additional requirements may include:
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of practice.
- Completion of a national certification exam relevant to nursing practice.
- Experience working in a healthcare setting serving diverse populations.
