About the role

The Indian Health Service (IHS) seeks dedicated Registered Nurses to provide comprehensive, evidence-based, and patient-centered care in an ambulatory care setting. Our nurses play a vital role in improving the health of American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver compassionate care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Implement evidence-based, patient-centered nursing care.
  • Select appropriate guidelines to match changing patient conditions.
  • Administer medications and treatments, and document patient responses and condition changes.
  • Communicate patient status and needs to providers and other staff.
  • Counsel and teach patients within established protocols.
  • Coordinate patient care activities with the care team.
  • Develop and implement plans of care with the care team based on clinical practice guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate and complete electronic health records.
  • Monitor patients and communicate clinical changes between patient and provider/care team.
  • Coordinate referrals, consults, and outside services.
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentoring to clinical and non-clinical staff.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

  • On-call hours or standby duty may be required.

  • Must obtain and maintain any required licensure.

Qualifications

  • A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required.
  • Licensure: Must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).
  • Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service, performing outpatient nursing duties, administering medications, and coordinating patient care activities.

Schedule

Position subject to rotating shifts; days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Shift rotations may vary from 8-, 10-, and 12-hour shifts.
