About the Role
Plan, direct, or coordinate the daily patient/resident care activities in a clinical environment at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network’s new state-of-the-art, 76-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital. This facility revolutionizes treatment and recovery options for people with complex medical conditions such as stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, and other serious injuries or illnesses. The Nurse Manager holds 24-hour responsibility and accountability for nursing practice in their patient care/resident unit and reports to the Director of Nursing. This role fosters the mission and core values of Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network in daily practice.
One of the most novel and exciting spaces in the new hospital is Empower+, a first-of-its-kind environment where people with disabilities and mobility challenges can explore advancements like 3D printing, robotics, wearables, artificial intelligence, and smart home devices designed to promote healing and independence.
Responsibilities
- Management Skills
- Leads unit operations to achieve organizational and departmental goals.
- Hires, transitions, and encourages professional development of nursing staff within their scope of practice.
- Supports and schedules nursing staffing requirements based on acuity, specialty, volumes, and budgeted NHPPD.
- Facilitates staff growth and development through effective communication and leadership.
- Promotes a Just Culture and implements strategies to maximize safe patient care.
- Develops leadership skills and routinely communicates organizational and site-specific information to associates.
- Facilitates Patient Care
- Acts as a clinical resource to RNs, LPNs, and NAs.
- Develops and implements nursing policies and procedures using evidence-based practice to standardize care.
- Establishes Departmental Strategic Goals
- Gathers pertinent business, financial, service, and operations information.
- Identifies and evaluates operational trends and options, selects a course of action, defines objectives, and evaluates outcomes.
- Contributes and Works Toward Financial Objectives
- Analyzes operational variances and adjusts accordingly.
- Exercises fiscal responsibility for expenditures, understands trends and variances, and controls expenses.

Requirements
- Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required.
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or other healthcare area preferred.
- Work Experience
- 4-6 years of nursing experience is required.
- 1-2 years of prior supervision preferred.
- Licenses / Certifications
- Active registered nurse (RN) license in Pennsylvania.
- Certified Nurse Executive (NE-BC) or Certified Nurse Executive Leader (CNEL) within 3 years of hire.
- Certification in area of specialty is preferred.
- BLS/CPR for healthcare providers, as per the American Heart Association.
- For those working at the Specialty (LTACH) and Rehabilitation Hospital: ACLS certification within six (6) months of employment (must be maintained).
- For those working in the Pediatric Hospital: PALS certification within six (6) months of employment (must be maintained).
