About the role
The Nurse Manager II – Labor & Delivery (L&D) will provide clinical and operational leadership within a high-acuity maternal-child healthcare environment. This position oversees daily unit operations, nursing staff, staffing and resource allocation, quality and safety initiatives, regulatory compliance, and financial performance. The Nurse Manager will collaborate with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, patients, families, and organizational leadership to ensure safe, efficient, and exceptional patient care.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop nursing staff.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, performance management, and staff development.
- Establish a culture of accountability, teamwork, professional growth, and clinical excellence.
- Support staff engagement, retention, and professional development.
- Provide leadership to multidisciplinary teams within the L&D environment.
- Oversee 24/7 Labor & Delivery unit operations, including staffing levels, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Monitor equipment, supplies, and operational needs to ensure efficient patient flow and continuity of care.
- Identify operational challenges and implement effective solutions.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, policies, and professional nursing standards, including The Joint Commission (TJC) requirements and the California Nursing Practice Act.
- Lead quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, monitoring clinical outcomes and developing action plans for improvement.
- Promote evidence-based nursing practices and a culture of patient safety.
- Assist with development and management of the unit budget, monitoring financial performance, staffing costs, and resource utilization.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and cost effectiveness.
- Implement departmental policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Support organizational strategic initiatives and clinical goals.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to promote effective communication and coordination of patient care.
- Address patient and family concerns professionally and efficiently.
- Support continuity of care throughout the patient experience.
- Promote a patient-centered approach to Labor & Delivery services.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Minimum 5 years of patient care delivery experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in business operations, clinical healthcare, or a related field.
- Minimum 4 years of leadership/management experience.
- Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Pay
$239,000 – $251,000 per year
