Nurse Extern - Nursing Internship

About the Role

The Nurse Extern I assists registered nurses in providing direct patient care under supervision, following hospital policies and procedures. This role involves supporting hospitalized patients, recognizing life-threatening situations, and initiating basic life support when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Identify and report urgent clinical symptoms and patient issues promptly.
• Observe and document vital signs, abnormal symptoms, and patient conditions accurately.
• Assist with specimen collection and laboratory procedures.
• Maintain aseptic techniques, universal precautions, and safety protocols.
• Record and communicate patient information, changes, and care activities effectively.
• Participate in departmental meetings, in-service programs, and safety and infection control training.
• Adhere to dress code, personal hygiene, HIPAA regulations, and hospital policies.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of an accredited nursing program, pursuing or having obtained an associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing.
• Completion of first clinical in good standing; proficiency in basic nursing tasks.
• Preferred: six months hospital experience.
• Required: AHA BLS certification within two weeks of employment.
