Nurse Clinician II Outpatient - TJJD Gainesville

About the role

The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD). This position provides direct nursing care to an assigned group of patients and functions as a competent clinician meeting standards for professional nursing practice as specified in the Texas Nurse Practice Act. The role operates as a member of an interdisciplinary, patient-centered care team, manages emergency situations common to the assigned specialty population, and serves as a resource for other nursing staff.

Responsibilities

• Competently and independently assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document daily care of assigned patients
• Identify patient care needs, formulate appropriate nursing diagnoses, develop and individualize care plans, and revise plans of care as needed
• Execute physician's orders for all assigned patients
• Administer medications and treatments and deliver culturally congruent, specialty-appropriate competent nursing care in accordance with UTMB, TDCJ and/or TJJD policies, procedures, and standards in a caring and compassionate manner
• Competently and independently perform routine and complex technical procedures/skills in assigned specialty area
• Competently and independently plan, coordinate, and prioritize patient care activities according to skill level and work complexity
• Adhere to internal controls and reporting structure established for department
• Perform related duties as required

Requirements

• Registered Nurse (RN) with two (2) years of clinical RN experience
• Current license or valid permit to practice nursing in Texas
• Current BLS-HP (Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers) certification
• Security clearance required
• Pre-employment drug testing required

This is an open-pooled position. Applicants' education and experience will be considered and the position may be filled at a lower or higher level as appropriate. Applicants with less than two (2) years of experience will be considered for a Nurse Clinician II - Outpatient or Nurse Clinician I - Outpatient position. Recent graduates with temporary permits will also be considered.

Work Environment

Located within the confines of a prison, jail, or juvenile detention center. Standard patient care supplies, equipment, and mechanical devices are used.
