NP Baltimore - Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Coordinator

About the role

The Curriculum and Academic Instructor works in coordination with the Principal and school administrators as an instructional support and mentor while also teaching classes as necessary. This role coaches direct care teachers in implementing the school’s approved curriculum, consistent with Maryland State Department of Education regulatory requirements, by modeling best practices and providing professional development. The instructor mentors faculty in developing differentiated instructional planning and techniques to meet the needs of all learners, supports educators in interpreting assessment data, and collaborates with the Principal on ongoing staff development.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor teachers and assistant teachers in implementing approved curriculum and best practices.
• Model differentiated instructional techniques to modify instruction for diverse learners, including students with emotional disabilities, autism, and intellectual disabilities.
• Support educators in interpreting current assessment data to measure student growth and achievement.
• Provide ongoing staff development training in collaboration with the school Principal.
• Collaborate with the Principal on teacher performance reviews.
• Train staff on special education topics, including integrated curriculum, lesson plan development, IEP processes, assessment tools, and brain-based learning strategies.
• Develop and adapt curriculum accommodations for special education students.
• Implement and analyze educational assessment results.
• Prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and demonstrate strong organizational skills.

Requirements

• Experience teaching students with autism, including non-verbal students.
• Master’s degree in Education preferred; MSDE Teaching certificate required.
• Minimum of five (5) years of classroom teaching experience, preferably with students with emotional disabilities, autism, and/or intellectual disabilities.
• Thorough understanding of COMAR regulations and PL 105-17 (IDEA) pertaining to educating children with disabilities.
• Experience with the Guild School Model, brain-based learning, Transformation Education, and experiential education.
• Knowledge of MSDE Voluntary State Curriculum, differentiated instruction, and integrated curriculum.
• Proficiency in interpreting assessment data and implementing performance-based instruction.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, computer proficiency, and experience collaborating with diverse disciplines.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor, train, and supervise staff.

Physical Demands

• Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Must be able to lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities include the ability to adjust focus.
