Electroencephalogram (EEG) Technicians use specialized equipment and processes to monitor a patient’s nervous system activity. They set up, perform, and monitor EEG tests which record the electrical activity of a patient’s brain over time. EEG Technicians work under the supervision of epileptologists, neurologists, or other doctors. By performing bedside EEG monitoring in this role, you will help to create specialized diagnoses to assist in creating patient care plans as well as help to manage patients with chronic conditions. Caregivers in this role often feel fulfilled and valued for their work and feel as though they are able to make a positive change.

This is a PRN role with a varying schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electroencephalographic examinations.
  • Select predetermined electrode combinations (montages) to obtain recordings, recognize artifacts and take appropriate steps to eliminate them.
  • Monitor on the same apparatus, other variables such as electromyograms, electrocardiograms, electro-oculograms, respiration, etc.
  • Observe patient with video recording equipment, ensure EEG and tape are lined up exactly and check focus, lighting and microphone.
  • Set-up patient for continuous monitoring at the bedside with video, if indicated.
  • Instruct nursing caregivers on pushing event button and care of videos.
  • Abstract relevant information from the patients' clinical record and obtain additional information.
  • Successfully obtain the American Board of Registration for Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) credentialing for a Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) within two years of hire.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Electroneurodiagnostics or a related patient care field OR two years of direct patient care experience.
  • Completion of an EEG Technician Trainee program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross.
  • Must successfully obtain the ABRET (American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists) credentialing for R. EEG T. (Registered EEG Technologist) within two years of hire into this position.

Skills

  • Manual dexterity in order to place electrodes precisely and to operate recording equipment.
  • Ability to push and maneuver EEG machine weighing 320 pounds and Evoked Potential machine weighing 420 pounds.
  • Corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
  • Ability to work with some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay

Pay Range Minimum hourly: $28.00
Maximum hourly: $28.00

The pay range displayed reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set and education. The pay range does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.) or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package (e.g., healthcare, dental and vision benefits, retirement savings account contributions, etc.).
