Non-Registered EEG Technician

As an Electroencephalogram (EEG) Technician, you will use specialized equipment and processes to monitor a patient’s nervous system activity, set up, perform, and monitor EEG tests which record the electrical activity of a patient’s brain over time. This is a PRN role working 7:00am to 11:00pm with possible weekend requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform electroencephalographic examinations.
• Select predetermined electrode combinations (montages) to obtain recordings, recognize artifacts, and take appropriate steps to eliminate them.
• Monitor other variables such as electromyograms, electrocardiograms, electro-oculograms, respiration, etc.
• Observe patient with video recording equipment, ensure EEG and tape are lined up exactly, and check focus, lighting, and microphone.
• Set up patient for continuous monitoring at the bedside with video, if indicated.
• Instruct nursing caregivers on pushing event button and care of videos.
• Abstract relevant information from the patients' clinical record and obtain additional information.
• Successfully obtain the American Board of Registration for Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) credentialing for a Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) within two years of hire.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in electroneurodiagnostics or a related patient care field OR two years of direct patient care experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross certification required.
• Two years direct patient care experience may substitute for the Associate's Degree requirement.
• Completion of an EEG Technician Trainee Program.
• Must successfully obtain the ABRET (American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists) credentialing for R. EEG T. (Registered EEG Technologist) within two years of hire into this position.

Physical Requirements

• Manual dexterity in order to place electrodes precisely and to operate recording equipment.
• Ability to push and maneuver EEG machine weighing 320 pounds and Evoked Potential machine weighing 420 pounds.
• Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
• Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay

The pay range for new hires is $28.00 per hour. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set, and education. The pay range does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.) or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package (e.g., healthcare, dental and vision benefits, retirement savings account contributions, etc.).

Schedule

This is a PRN role with a schedule of 7:00am to 11:00pm, including possible weekend requirements.
