Non-Registered EEG Technician

About the role

Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital is a fully integrated medical campus that includes diagnostic centers, outpatient surgery, and a 24-hour emergency department located in the state-of-the-art hospital. As part of the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, this role offers opportunities to grow and expand your career, with training and instruction in performing electroencephalographic examinations and/or epilepsy monitoring.

Non-registered EEG Technicians in this role should expect to work toward full registration as an EEG Technologist within one year. Support is provided for obtaining Registered EEG Certification and CLTM (Certification in Neurophysiologic Long-Term Monitoring) credentials, with potential to advance into roles such as Registered EEG Tech Readers and IOM (Intraoperative Monitoring) Technicians.

Responsibilities

• Perform electroencephalographic examinations.
• Select predetermined electrode combinations (montages) to obtain recordings, recognize artifacts, and take appropriate steps to eliminate them.
• Monitor other variables such as electromyograms, electrocardiograms, electro-oculograms, and respiration using the same apparatus.
• Observe patients with video recording equipment, ensuring EEG and video alignment, and check focus, lighting, and microphone functionality.
• Set up patients for continuous monitoring at the bedside with video, if indicated.
• Instruct nursing caregivers on pushing event buttons and care of videos.
• Abstract relevant information from patients' clinical records and obtain additional information as needed.
• Successfully obtain the American Board of Registration for Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) credentialing for a Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) within two years of hire.

Requirements

• Associate’s Degree in Electroneurodiagnostics or a related patient care field OR two years of direct patient care experience.
• One year of experience as a non-registered EEG Technician.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.

Physical Requirements

• Manual dexterity to place electrodes precisely and operate recording equipment.
• Ability to push and maneuver an EEG machine weighing 320 pounds and an Evoked Potential machine weighing 420 pounds.
• Corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
• Some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Schedule

Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, with on-call requirements. Primary work location is Martin North Hospital, with floating to Martin South and Tradition Hospitals as needed.
