NOC Engineer
Leidos is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented NOC Engineer to join our Network Operations Center. You will serve as the first line of defense for network availability, performance, and stability. Monitor systems, triage alerts, troubleshoot complex routing and hardware issues, and collaborate with cross-functional IT teams to resolve incidents swiftly.
Responsibilities
- Real-Time Monitoring: Watch over network performance, server health, bandwidth utilization, and core infrastructure via enterprise monitoring tools, such as SolarWinds and Splunk.
- Incident Response: Detect anomalies, analyze alerts, triage severity levels, and initiate immediate troubleshooting or escalation. Provide timely situational awareness to leadership and affected communities and communicate effectively with the O&M team.
- Troubleshooting & Resolution: Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity faults (routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, servers).
- Escalation Management: Document trouble tickets thoroughly and escalate unresolved, high-priority issues to Tier 2/3 engineering teams.
- Maintenance & Patching: Perform scheduled network maintenance, software updates, and security patch deployment during designated maintenance windows.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate shift logs, update standard operating procedures (SOPs), and generate network reports.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of hands-on experience working in a NOC, IT Help Desk, or network administration environment OR 5 years of experience in lieu of degree.
- Must have a TS/SCI with active and current polygraph clearance to be considered.
- Solid understanding of core networking fundamentals, such as the OSI Reference model, routing and switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, and VPN technologies).
- Familiarity with enterprise networking vendor equipment (e.g., Cisco, Juniper) and operating systems (Linux/Windows Server).
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities, ability to remain calm under pressure during major outages, and strong written and verbal communication.
- Willingness to support NOC schedule (12-hour coverage Monday through Friday; individuals work 8-hour shifts).
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Relevant entry-to-mid-level certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate), or equivalent.
- May be expected to undergo psychological and medical testing.
Pay
Pay Range: $59,150.00 - $106,925.00. The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
