News Producer

About the role

The News Producer will be responsible for the day-to-day production of WBMA/WJSU/WCFT’s newscasts. They will work closely with the Executive Producer, Director, Assignment Desk, and Anchors to ensure the newscasts are engaging, informative, and meet the station's standards.

Responsibilities

• Determine the content and flow of newscasts
• Work with management and on-air staff to generate and write stories
• Develop content for the station’s website
• Ensure stories align with the station’s news judgment and editorial guidelines
• Collaborate with the Assignment Desk to gather and prioritize story ideas
• Manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
• Execute news strategies and goals in daily newscasts
• Provide leadership and support to on-air talent
• On-the-spot problem-solving and flexibility are essential

Requirements

• Solid news judgment
• Compelling and accurate writing skills
• Ability to multitask and manage time effectively
• Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Proficiency with non-linear editing software (Avid)
• Knowledge of newsroom systems (iNews Experience)
• At least some previous news producing experience at a commercial TV station
• A journalism degree is preferred

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
• Pass a background check and drug test
