About the role
The News Producer will be responsible for the day-to-day production of WBMA/WJSU/WCFT’s newscasts. They will work closely with the Executive Producer, Director, Assignment Desk, and Anchors to ensure the newscasts are engaging, informative, and meet the station's standards.
Responsibilities
- Determine the content and flow of newscasts
- Work with management and on-air staff to generate and write stories
- Develop content for the station’s website
- Ensure stories align with the station’s news judgment and editorial guidelines
- Collaborate with the Assignment Desk to gather and prioritize story ideas
- Manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Execute news strategies and goals in daily newscasts
- Provide leadership and support to on-air talent
- On-the-spot problem-solving and flexibility are essential
Requirements
- Solid news judgment
- Compelling and accurate writing skills
- Ability to multitask and manage time effectively
- Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Proficiency with non-linear editing software (Avid)
- Knowledge of newsroom systems (iNews Experience)
- At least some previous news producing experience at a commercial TV station
- A journalism degree is preferred
Qualifications
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Pass a background check and drug test
