News Producer

About the role

The News Producer will be responsible for the day-to-day production of WZTV/WUXP/WNAB's newscasts. They will work closely with the Executive Producer, Director, Assignment Desk, and Anchors to ensure the newscasts are engaging and informative.

Responsibilities

• Determine the content and flow of newscasts
• Work with management and on-air staff to generate and write stories
• Develop content for the website
• Ensure stories align with news judgment and accuracy
• Manage time effectively to produce an exciting and informative newscast
• Lead and communicate effectively within the team
• Execute news strategies and goals in daily newscasts
• Show flexibility and problem-solving skills under pressure
• Use non-linear editing software and newsroom systems

Requirements

• Solid news judgment
• Compelling and accurate writing skills
• Ability to multitask and manage time
• Fast-paced and deadline-driven environment experience
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Flexibility and on-the-spot problem-solving abilities
• Previous news producing experience at a commercial TV station (or relevant entry-level experience)
• A journalism degree is preferred
