About the Role

The HCA Healthcare Residency Program at St. David's Medical Center is a year-long, paid program designed to transition new nurses from the classroom to professional practice. The program provides hands-on experience, advanced clinical training in a specialty area, and a supportive community of nurse educators, experienced nurses, and fellow residents. Cohort start dates are available in September, October, or November 2026.

The RN Resident coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with department-specific requirements and state/national standards. Using the "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage" nursing model, the RN Resident collaborates with medical providers and the care team to provide individualized, compassionate care while serving as a patient and family advocate.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient condition during admission and each scheduled shift, reporting any changes in status.
• Perform procedures, monitoring, and other functions as ordered by medical providers.
• Document administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
• Administer prescribed medications, monitor patient response, and intervene as needed for unintended reactions.
• Respond promptly to patient requests and proactively anticipate patient needs.
• Educate patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, side effects, and follow-up measures using clear, non-technical language.
• Participate in monthly educational sessions, preceptorship training, hands-on simulations, and an evidence-based practice project.
• Engage in mentorship opportunities with experienced nurse leaders.

Requirements

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification obtained within 30 days of employment.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification obtained within 1 year of employment.
• Other certifications may be required during employment.
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
• Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse status in the state of employment.
• No previous experience required.
• Some travel may be needed for training.
