New Grad RN Resident - Surgical Medical Unit
About the Role

As an RN on the 9 Surgical Unit, you will provide stellar patient care in a 16-bed unit known for its family atmosphere and positive work environment. This role involves direct interaction with patients, families, and visitors, offering healthcare education and enhancing their experience from admission to discharge.
Responsibilities
- Participate in a residency core curriculum tailored to individual learning needs.
- Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.
- Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care based on acuity of need, patient preference, and resource availability.
- Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce, or prevent risk.
- Seek supervision, consultation, and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
- Document patient care in medical records.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN program).
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross.
- New grad or less than one year of RN work experience, or less than one year of current acute direct patient care RN experience if transitioning from a non-inpatient setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Physical Requirements
- Full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
- Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly.
Personal Protective Equipment: Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.

Schedule
Day/night rotation from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., with every other weekend and holiday rotation requirements.
Pay
Pay range for new hires: $35.50 – $55.60 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on work history, experience, skill set, and education. This range does not include shift differentials, overtime, or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package.
