About the Role

At Johnston-Willis Hospital, you’ll join the HCA Nurse Residency Program, a year-long initiative designed to help new nurses transition from student to registered nurse. The program provides hands-on experience, clinical training, and critical thinking development through:

  • Advanced clinical training in a specialty area
  • Monthly educational sessions
  • Preceptorship with a facility preceptor
  • Skills measurement and evaluation via simulations
  • Mentorship from experienced nurse leaders
  • Collaborative evidence-based practice projects

The RN Resident delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in alignment with department-specific requirements and state/national standards. Using the "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage" nursing model, you’ll collaborate with medical providers and care teams to provide individualized, compassionate care while advocating for patients, families, and caregivers.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient condition during admission and each scheduled shift, reporting changes in status
  • Perform procedures, monitoring, and other functions as ordered by medical providers
  • Document care administration in the patient medical record promptly and thoroughly
  • Administer prescribed medications and monitor therapeutic responses
  • Notify providers and intervene for unintended medication responses
  • Respond promptly to patient requests and anticipate needs proactively
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers on medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, side effects, and follow-up measures
  • Translate complex medical terminology for clear understanding

Requirements

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification obtained within 30 days of employment
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification obtained within 1 year of employment
  • Additional certifications may be required during employment
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse status in the state
  • No prior experience necessary
  • Some travel may be required for training
