About the role
The HCA Healthcare Residency Program at Transylvania Regional Hospital is a year-long, paid program designed to give you hands-on experience and establish valuable clinical and critical thinking skills. As a Resident I Graduate Nurse, you will be part of a supportive community that promotes learning, clinical application, and socialization to help you transition from student nurse to registered nurse. The program includes:
- Advanced clinical training in a specialty area
- Monthly educational sessions
- Preceptorship training with a facility preceptor
- Measurement and evaluation of skills through hands-on simulations
- Mentoring from experienced nurse leaders
- Collaborative work on an evidence-based practice project
The RN Resident coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with department-specific requirements and state/specialty scope and standards. Using nursing models such as "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage," the RN Resident provides individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care in collaboration with medical providers and the care team, serving as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers.
Responsibilities
- Assess patient condition during admission and each scheduled shift, reporting any changes in status
- Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by medical providers
- Document administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner
- Administer prescribed medications and monitor patient for therapeutic response
- Notify provider and intervene as appropriate for unintended medication responses
- Respond promptly to patient requests and proactively anticipate patient needs
- Teach patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, status, treatment plans, medications, side effects, and follow-up measures
- Translate complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding
Requirements
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification obtained within 30 days of employment
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification obtained within 1 year of employment
- Other certifications may be required during employment
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program
- Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse status in the state
- No previous experience needed
- Some travel may be required for training
