About the role

The HCA Healthcare Residency Program at Reston Hospital Center is a year-long, paid program designed to transition new graduate nurses from the classroom to professional practice. As a Resident I Graduate Nurse, you will receive hands-on experience through:

  • Advanced clinical training in a specialty area
  • Monthly educational sessions
  • Preceptorship training with a facility preceptor
  • Skills measurement and evaluation through hands-on simulations
  • Mentoring from experienced nurse leaders
  • Collaborative work on an evidence-based practice project

  • Medical Ortho Spine
  • Rehab
  • Progressive Care Unit
  • Intermediate Care Unit
  • Intensive Care Unit
  • Emergency Department
  • Labor and Delivery
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Flexible start date options available starting in 2027. Shift preferences (day or night) will be discussed during the initial interview.

The RN Resident coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with department-specific requirements and scope of practice standards. Using the "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage" nursing model, the RN Resident collaborates with medical providers and care teams to provide individualized, compassionate care while serving as a patient, family, and caregiver advocate.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient condition during admission and each scheduled shift, reporting any changes in status
  • Perform procedures, monitoring, and other functions as ordered by medical providers
  • Document administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner
  • Administer prescribed medications and monitor patient for therapeutic response
  • Notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended medication response
  • Respond promptly to patient requests and proactively anticipate patient needs
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, status, treatment plans, medications, side effects, and follow-up measures
  • Translate complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding

Requirements

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification obtained within 30 days of employment
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification obtained within 1 year of employment
  • Additional certifications may be required during employment
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program
  • Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse status in the State
  • No previous experience needed
  • Some travel may be needed for training
