About the Role
The HCA Nurse Residency Program at Research Psychiatric Center is a year-long, paid program designed to transition new graduates from student nurses to registered nurses. You’ll receive hands-on experience, advanced clinical training in a specialty area, and support from nurse educators, experienced nurses, and fellow residents. The program includes:
- Monthly educational sessions
- Preceptorship training with a facility preceptor
- Skills measurement and evaluation through hands-on simulations
- Mentoring from experienced nurse leaders
- Collaboration on an evidence-based practice project
As an RN Resident, you’ll deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with departmental and state standards. Using the “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage” nursing model, you’ll collaborate with medical providers and care teams to provide individualized, compassionate care while advocating for patients, families, and caregivers.
Responsibilities
- Assess patient condition during admission and each scheduled shift, reporting any changes in status
- Perform procedures, monitoring, and other functions as ordered by medical providers
- Document care administration in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner
- Administer prescribed medications, monitor therapeutic response, and intervene as needed for unintended reactions
- Respond promptly to patient requests and proactively anticipate patient needs
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, side effects, and follow-up measures, translating complex medical terminology for clarity
Qualifications
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification obtained within 30 days of employment
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification obtained within 1 year of employment
- Additional certifications may be required during employment
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, completed before start date
- Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse status in the state; must pass NCLEX on first attempt within 90 days to remain in the RN role
- No previous experience required
- Some travel may be needed for training
