About the Role
The HCA Nurse Residency Program at Research Psychiatric Center is a year-long program designed to provide hands-on experience, establish valuable clinical and critical thinking skills, and support your transition from student nurse to registered nurse. As a Resident I Graduate Nurse, you will be part of a supportive community of nurse educators, experienced nurses, and fellow residents that promote learning, clinical application, and socialization.

The RN Resident coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with department-specific requirements and state/specialty scope and standards. Using established nursing models such as "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage," the RN Resident provides individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care in collaboration with medical providers and the care team, serving as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers.
Responsibilities
- Assess patient condition during admission and each scheduled shift, identifying and reporting changes in patient status
- Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by medical providers
- Document the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner
- Administer prescribed medications, monitor patient for therapeutic response, and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response
- Respond promptly to patient requests and proactively anticipate patient needs
- Teach patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, side effects, and follow-up measures, translating complex medical terminology for complete understanding
Requirements
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification obtained within 30 days of employment
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification obtained within 1 year of employment
- Additional certifications may be required during employment
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, achieved before the start date
- Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse status in the state; must pass NCLEX on the first attempt within 90 days to remain in the RN role
- No previous experience required
- Some travel may be needed for training
