New Business Development Manager

About the Role

Develop and execute territory sales strategies focused on new business acquisition and revenue growth within the New England market.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, prospect, and secure new retail, distribution, and business accounts.
  • Generate new business through cold calling, networking, referrals, market research, industry events, and in-person sales.
  • Manage the complete sales cycle from prospecting and lead generation through closing, account implementation, and ongoing account development.
  • Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline and consistently pursue new business opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with retailers, distributors, regional chains, independent retailers, and other business partners.
  • Conduct regular customer and prospect visits throughout the assigned territory.
  • Deliver effective sales presentations and communicate product and service value to prospective customers.
  • Negotiate pricing, programs, contracts, and other business terms.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure successful account setup, implementation, and customer support.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records of customer interactions, sales opportunities, pipeline activity, and account information.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer needs to identify additional growth opportunities.
  • Prepare sales reports, pipeline updates, and revenue forecasts.
  • Expand existing accounts through additional products, programs, and business opportunities.
  • Represent the company at trade shows, conferences, customer meetings, and industry events.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in outside sales, business development, territory management, or new account acquisition.
  • Proven track record of developing territories and successfully closing new business.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed sales targets.
  • Strong prospecting, cold calling, negotiation, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to independently manage a territory, sales pipeline, and multiple priorities.
  • Experience working with CRM systems and standard business applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout the assigned territory.
  • Ability to attend occasional company meetings, trade shows, conferences, and industry events.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience selling greeting cards, consumer packaged goods (CPG), gifts, stationery, retail products, or similar merchandise.
  • Existing relationships with retailers, distributors, regional chains, supermarkets, pharmacies, gift stores, independent retailers, or similar customers in the New England market.
  • Experience developing new retail accounts and expanding existing customer relationships.
  • Experience working with independent sales representatives or field merchandising teams is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, or a related field.
