Neuhaus Education Center

The Neuhaus Fellowship Program is an innovative initiative designed to address two critical community needs: developing a pipeline of certified dyslexia specialists and expanding access to high-quality, evidence-based intervention for students with dyslexia. The Fellowship specifically serves students while increasing dyslexia awareness and strengthening the visibility of Neuhaus Education Center.

About the role

Fellows are part-time Neuhaus employees who receive comprehensive dyslexia training, mentorship, and practicum experiences through Neuhaus certification pathways, including the Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP) or Certified Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist (C-SLDI) tracks, with all training and supervision costs fully covered by Neuhaus. Once trained and actively progressing through certification, Fellows provide direct dyslexia intervention and tutoring to elementary, middle, and high school students in small-group and one-on-one settings. Fellows also support the broader mission of Neuhaus by contributing to professional development, community engagement, and curriculum initiatives.

This position has an anticipated term of approximately two (2) school years, or upon earning CALP or C-SLDI certification, whichever occurs first. There is no guarantee of continued employment beyond that time.

Responsibilities

• Deliver dyslexia intervention to students across multiple educational settings, with the potential to serve additional students through a summer cohort. Instruction will span grades K–12 using evidence-based instructional practices.
• Provide tutoring in small groups (no more than six students) and one-on-one sessions, both in-person and virtually.
• Collect and analyze student progress data to inform instruction, ensuring each student achieves measurable reading gains consistent with Neuhaus intervention outcomes.
• Maintain accurate records of lesson plans, attendance, and progress reports.
• Complete required coursework, practicum hours, and supervision components toward CALP or C-SLDI certification under the guidance of a CALT-QI (Qualified Instructor) or equivalent.
• Assist Neuhaus staff in teaching classes, developing instructional materials, or supporting curriculum design projects; leading parent-focused and professional workshops.
• Attend major professional conferences to maintain cutting-edge knowledge of dyslexia research and intervention, and to represent Neuhaus Education Center.
• Connect with parents of struggling readers through local conferences, community centers, and family outreach events to raise dyslexia awareness and promote access to evidence-based support.
• Participate in Neuhaus outreach and community engagement events.
• Collaborate with Neuhaus teams to enhance training and service initiatives, and actively work to establish the Neuhaus Fellow designation as a recognized professional credential in Texas educational and literacy circles.
• Perform administrative duties as assigned to support orderly record retention and smooth operations.

Requirements

• Actively pursuing or obtained a bachelor’s degree required.
• Valid Texas Teaching Certificate preferred but not required.
• Experience teaching children or adolescents in an educational setting preferred.
• Experience working with students with learning differences or dyslexia preferred.
• Ability to work effectively in both independent and team-based environments.
• Experience working in flexible, dynamic schedules including evenings preferred.
• Strong commitment to literacy instruction and supporting students with dyslexia.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Technologically proficient and able to work effectively in remote and hybrid environments with internal and external teams.

Schedule

• Some domestic and overnight travel will be necessary, which is inclusive of tutoring locations, conferences, professional development implementation, and organizational events. Travel may include multiple overnight stays.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including late afternoons and evenings as needed.
• Ability to work on-site in Bellaire and the surrounding Houston area and travel locally or overnight as required.
• Ability to maintain a consistent weekly schedule, generally required Monday through Thursday, likely 3:00–6:00 PM.
• Availability for at least half-day shifts throughout the summer to support the Neuhaus summer camp.

$20.00 – $25.00 per hour
