Network Technician I
About the Role
Candidate will need to be qualified in installing, testing and certifying structured and patch panel cabling in a data center environment. Black Box Network Services, the global leader in communication system integration, is looking for a Network Infrastructure Technician with a proven track record in working in a structured cabling environment.
Responsibilities
The candidate will be responsible for installing, testing and certifying structured and patch panel cabling in a data center environment. Other responsibilities include:
- Patching cabling between network equipment and customer’s network
- Installation of power cables from equipment to power supply in rack/cabinet/closet
- Installation, troubleshooting and de-installing network equipment
- Install/swap out cables, switches routers and etc.
- Complete all hard and complex Move, Add Change (MAC) requests within the defined service levels
- Provide infrastructure cabling break-fix services for network infrastructure
- Perform layer 1 troubleshooting
- Support carrier testing of circuits
- Assist with facilities efforts
- Power and uninterruptable power supply (UPS) restoral
- Water problems
- Emergency cooling restoration
- Fire suppression exercises, restoration, and post fire events
- Act as an interface, as needed, between associates at the applicable location and centralized project / operations / MAC management
Requirements
Requires appropriate equipment training with high-speed fiber optic transport. The ability to clean high speed single and multi-mode optical connections. The ability to measure, transmit and receive on high-speed optics. The knowledge and experience to work safely with high-speed single mode long range optical lasers.
- Experienced with Fluke Versiv Mainframe
- Requires experience in working in a data centers and communications closets
- Must be able to safely lift heavy objects
- Must understand cable patching processes and procedures
- Proven success troubleshooting layer 1 network concerns
- Must be willing to work shift work which includes nights and weekends
Qualifications
2-5 yrs experience relevant experience, preferably at least 1 year in a data center environment. Must have an in-depth knowledge of structured cabling. Knowledge of IEEE and BICSI cabling standards.
Physical Requirements

Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are. Ability to adjust focus: Ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus. Color Vision: Ability to identify colors. Speaking/Hearing: Possesses the ability to give and receive information through speaking and listening skills. Motor Coordination: While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is frequently required to stand; and walk. The incumbent is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend.
Schedule
Hourly position based upon experience & skill level. Monday - Saturday 6:00 PM - 2:00 AM. Location: Customer site - Dallas, TX
