About the Role
Responsible for the stable operation of the County enterprise network and computer systems. Plan, develop, install, configure, maintain, support, and optimize all network and server hardware, software, and communication links. Participate in the planning and implementation of departmental policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning, maintenance, and security align with County goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
- Participate in and support network and system design and capacity planning for long-term strategic goals for networks, systems, storage, and software.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network and server resource administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery.
Acquisition & Deployment
- Coordinate with network engineering, application services, and database administration functions to implement network and server systems that utilize industry best practices to meet county objectives.
- Deploy servers, firewalls, encryption systems, and all host security systems.
- Perform installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of server hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
- Interact with contractors to implement servers, network devices, and services.
- Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
Operational Management
- Maintain and administer:
- Server infrastructure, including email, print, and backup servers along with their associated software.
- Network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, and UPS devices.
- Operating systems and infrastructure software, including the virtual server platform.
- Communications and connection solutions, including workstation connectivity, local area networks, intranet, and Internet applications.
- System permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
- Security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems.
- Recommend, schedule, and perform software, hardware, and network improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, repairs, and/or purchases.
- Monitor server, network, storage, application, and peripheral device performance while providing statistics and reports.
- Ensure the integrity and security of enterprise data on host computers and during data transfer in accordance with business needs and industry best practices.
- Perform network and server security audits in cooperation with the Cybersecurity Administrator.
- Perform and test routine system backups and restores.
- Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on servers and networks. Escalate incidents as necessary.
- Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
- Support application development teams throughout project lifecycles.
- Perform 24-hour on-call duties.
Additional Duties

Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
- Two (2) years of experience in server and network administration. Project management experience is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record in accordance with County policy.
- Must pass NCIC background and driving record check.
- CompTIA or Cisco certification(s) preferred.
Skills & Qualifications
Knowledge
- Working technical knowledge of operating systems, including Windows and RedHat Linux.
- Application experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware and Hyper-V.
- Current network and server hardware, software, protocols, and standards, including firewalls and Active Directory.
- Local area network administration.
- Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience.
- Data management, backup, and recovery.
- Applicable data privacy practices and laws.
Skills

- Read, write, and interpret technical documentation and procedure manuals.

Pay
$60,902.40 – $99,340.80 per year.
